I welcome your direct email, texts, and calls!

"Wythe County deserves leadership that listens. I will be open, transparent, and accountable. I will work for you. I want to hear from small business owners. Let's share our experiences. I know my experience will be different from those businesses within the city limits. What challenges are you dealing with? I believe in a Wytheville where small businesses don't just survive but thrive. Please message me with your experiences and ideas."

The Cove, Our Home

"Owning property in the Historic Cove for 19 years means more than land ownership; it’s become a part of me. I cherish its history and the peace that comes with knowing this place is rooted in something bigger than myself. Through ups and downs, repairs and growth, the Cove has taught me what stewardship really is. It’s not just owning land, it’s protecting it, preserving it, and one day passing it on to our daughter. I love this special place and respect its past, and want to ensure it maintains its beauty for generations to come."

Election Questions

1. What is the biggest issue facing Wythe County today?

The biggest issue facing Wythe County is protecting our farmland and rural character while planning responsibly for growth. Development is coming, but we must make sure it strengthens our community instead of overwhelming it. That means putting Wythe County families, farmers, and small businesses first when decisions are made, not outside corporations.

2. Are you supportive of some type of zoning?

No, I do not support zoning. I believe zoning opens the door to government overreach and threatens private property rights. That said, I am very concerned about protecting our farmland from being taken over by large-scale solar farms and other industrial projects. Once farmland is gone, it’s gone forever. Instead of zoning, I support using specific ordinances and county policies that directly address these issues without giving government sweeping control over every landowner. This way, we can protect our farms, preserve our rural character, and still respect individual property rights.

3. What is your general feeling about Wythe’s tax rates?

Wythe County has done an excellent job managing taxpayer dollars. Our current tax rates are fair and stable, and we have been able to complete major projects like school renovations and infrastructure improvements without raising taxes. As a supervisor, I will continue to be a watchdog over spending, making sure every dollar is used wisely and that Wythe families aren’t burdened with unnecessary tax increases.

4. How do you balance Wythe’s rural heritage with its coming needs?

Our rural heritage is what makes Wythe County special. Agriculture, family farms, and small businesses are the backbone of our community. At the same time, we must invest in infrastructure: roads, broadband, and workforce housing, to support the growth that’s coming. The balance comes from prioritizing projects that help our residents and protect our farmland, while still welcoming responsible development that creates jobs for our people.

5. Any other issues you would like to address?

Yes. Two things:

Public Safety: I strongly support our law enforcement, fire, and EMS. They are the ones who keep Wythe County safe, and we must make sure they have the resources they need.

Transparency & Accountability: I believe in open government. I’ve attended every Board of Supervisors meeting since February so that I am prepared to hit the ground running on day one. As your representative, I will always listen, communicate clearly, and be available to the people of East Wytheville.

I, Cynthia R. “Cindy Mac” McIlrath, am proud to formally announce my candidacy for the Wythe County Board of Supervisors. With a deep love for our community and a steadfast commitment to serving our residents with integrity, transparency, and dedication, I am eager to bring fresh leadership and a strong voice to the people of Wythe County’s East Wytheville District.

As a lifelong conservative, I believe in limited government, personal responsibility, fiscal discipline, and protecting our God-given rights. I will work to ensure that our local government remains accountable to the people, that tax dollars are spent wisely, and that our community continues to reflect the values we hold dear: faith, family, and freedom.

My husband, Scott, and I have owned property in Wythe County for 19 years and we, along with our daughter Brooke, made it our permanent home eight years ago. This community is more than just where we live - it’s where our hearts are. I am committed to preserving our way of life, upholding our values, and ensuring that our county remains a great place to live.

I believe in open communication between our local government and the people it serves. If elected, I will listen to your concerns, advocate for your needs, and as anyone who knows me will tell you, I will work diligently to strengthen our county for generations to come.

I humbly ask for your support and your vote in this important election. Together, we can build a future that honors our heritage while embracing new opportunities for growth and prosperity.
